Hard work pays off. In the case of our very own Dr. Cecilia Astorga-Switzer, it’s 30 years of hard work, advocating for positive mental health for kids and families.
National Alliance of Mental Illness Michigan Honors recently recognized Dr. Astorga-Switzer’s commitment by awarding her the Mental Health Hero Physician/Psychiatrist Award. We couldn’t be more proud!
Dr. Astorga-Switzer joined The Children’s Center team in 1985. She began her career here as a psychiatrist and advanced to her current position as Chief Medical Officer in 2011.
Under her leadership, The Children’s Center has increased the number of children receiving critical psychiatric evaluation and treatment by growing our team of child psychiatrists, nurses, medical assistants and a fully licensed psychological staff to 9.5 full time equivalents. Over the past five years, Dr. Astorga led the tripling of our Autism services making us the leading inner-city provider to families not able to pay for this important care.
Dr. Astorga is also an active practitioner who sees children and families on a daily basis. She is devoted to clinical excellence and a proponent of evidence-based practices in Parent Child Interaction Therapy, ADHD, Sleep Disorders and Autism. That means our children and families receive the highest quality of treatment, regardless of their ability to pay.
As a practitioner, administrator, trainer and consultant, Dr. Astorga goes above and beyond – and has for 30 years – ensuring children, youth and families receive the care they need and deserve.
