Every February, people pay it forward with little helpful acts during Random Acts of Kindness Week, according to the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation. We have put together an inspiring list of ways you can spread a little kindness this week in Detroit! And don’t forget to leave us a comment about your good deed!

1. Donate Gloves, Mittens, Hats and Coats

This time of year we may take our warm winter gear for granted, but many are left cold without proper coats, hats and mittens. Why not donate new or gently used items to The Children’s Center?

2. Make Soup

A pot of soup is an appreciated act of kindness on a frigid day. Why not cook one up and deliver it to an elderly neighbor or shelter? We found a great recipe for Tomato-Basil Soup.

3. Shovel a Drive or Sidewalk

We have had more than our fair share of snow this winter! For many, it has been a struggle to keep up. Many seniors may have health and mobility issues — hindering snow and ice removal. Why not surprise a neighbor by removing snow from walkways and drives?

4. Donate to Charity

Kindness starts with giving. So give to your favorite charity. Of course we are partial to The Children’s Center and always appreciate the generous donations from our patrons, but there are many great charities out there.

5. Offer to Babysit

Why not offer those who have the toughest job some kindness? Offer a few hours of babysitting to parents who can’t afford it and don’t have time for themselves.

6. Volunteer

There are so many opportunities to volunteer here in the Detroit metro area and you are bound to find the right place to donate your time and talent!  If you’re interested in learning more about the volunteer opportunities at The Children’s Center, please contact us.

7. Donate School Supplies

Many students don’t have the basics to make the most of their education. Why not donate school supplies to those who need them? We are happy to take donations of school supplies here at The Children’s Center’s Head Start Academy!

8. Buy Diapers

Any family with a child still in diapers knows the expense of buying disposable diapers. For many low income families, this is a great source of stress since most government programs like WIC and Food Stamps don’t cover the cost of diapers. Providing diapers to families is not only an act of kindness, but meets a great need. We accept donations of diapers here at The Children’s Center.

9. Give Back on Your Birthday

Presents are for kids! Pledge your birthday this year and have family and friends make a donation to The Children’s Center in your name. It’s a simple way to help heal Detroit’s children.

10. Give a Ride

Many people don’t have the means or ability to drive themselves to appointments or other necessary destinations. You can provide a much needed service by driving a neighbor in need to an appointment or the store.

Make the most of this week and share a random act of kindness with someone!  Learn more about The Children’s Center and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
