Children are the Heroes at Our Power of Possibilities Breakfast
Changing Lives Through our Annual Fundraising Breakfast
On May 16, our annual Power of Possibilities Breakfast will celebrate its ninth anniversary. It’s an event we hold close to our hearts for many reasons. Since 2004, the event has raised more than $3M in unrestricted contributions to help us continue our mission.
Empowering Detroit Children Through Your Donations
The event, presented by Ford Motor Company and supported by many other generous sponsors, is free to attend. It’s an inspiring one-hour program with a free-will donation opportunity at the end.
“We value all contributions and what they can help us do for Detroit children. Unrestricted contributions give us the most flexibility to meet the greatest unfunded needs for our families,” said Chief Philanthropy Officer Tammy Zonker.

A Little Giving History
Held at the Westin Book Cadillac in downtown Detroit, the event attracts more than 500 community business and civic leaders a year. At the inaugural event, The Children’s Center launched its Village of Giving Circle. Now, more than 100 members belong to this circle, each pledging a minimum of $1,000 per year for five years.
“For the most part, everyone makes a gift at some level during the breakfast, and usually 10 to 15 percent of our guests join the Village of Giving. Every gift makes a huge difference to our children and families,” said President and CEO Debora Matthews.
What’s in Store at This Year’s Breakfast
This year’s event theme is “Children Are the Heroes.” The program showcases some of our superhero children and their inspiring success stories. Tina Ford, Board Executive Committee and Village of Giving Member, says, “It’s an amazing event. Where else can you get a cup of coffee, a light breakfast and heavy dose of inspiration in one hour?”
